66 CA77

Post by young4vr » Sat Aug 09, 2008 6:47 am

Had my bike running pretty good, then I decided to tinker with the gap on the points and the plugs, now when I give it full throttle it sputters. It seems to idle fine. I have the points gapped at .014 and the plugs at .30. Battery is a little weak, but fires up easliy.

Any suggestions on where to start, carb, points, new plugs.

Go to the FAQ on the left and read How I Tune My Engine. You will find there is more to the points than just the gap. .............lm

I have read the Moores Law

Post by young4vr » Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:20 pm

I have read faq several hundred times, maybe I am more a picture guy. I keep getting confused when where to hook thinks up. I built by 12 volt light, attatched it to the points and the engine, I get the light on the F, but when I turn it about 270 degrees, the light comes on again, I have tried to adjust with all the screws, but no luck, still not idling right.

I also get confused over the two carbs and right and left points, because I only have 1 of each. I have a 1966 Honda CA77.

I appreicate any help that you give me and all the help you guys have gave me in the past. I just want to get it running correctly again.

Time your engine to "F" with the line on the points cam down and don't bother with the left side. All that has to happen is for the light to JUST COME ON as the rotor mark "F" gets in line with the marker on the stater. ...................lm

the owners manual for my CA77 says to gap the spark plug at .027.....i know that isn't much from your .030 , but it could possible make a difference. you did say it was running fine before you "tinkered" with the points and plugs. i would definitely install new plugs
