does frame color designate original color of bike
I'm not sure the original question has been answered. I have a 64 CB72 in blue, the paint looks original, but the frame is black - is this a correct spec?
Pic here: http://www.toastyhamster.plus.com/IMG_2057.JPG Ignoring the front guard is this all standard? The blue 72 in the "nearly finished" thread has inspired me, but the frame is blue and the guards are silver so maybe my 72 has been painted at some stage.
The bike was issued as Black. I see silver under the blue on the filter cover and black under the blue on several parts. A good clue that is has been over painted is the blue rear fender. .............lm
RIDE IT DON'T HIDE IT!
Well that makes finding colour codes a lot easier! Unfortunately I've thought of a lot more questions...
What silver paint is usually used for the guards etc? The wheel hubs look half polished, how is such a uniform finish achieved, I was going to get the hubs bead blasted and then polish them, but they look nice "half" done. Ditto the engine covers but they look nice just bead blasted, assuming that's how the finish is achieved. I have 2 sets of shocks, the ones on the blue bike have a blue plastic top cover with a steel part underneath. The other set have an aluminium top cover and aluminium cover underneath. Which is correct for 64?, and are the parts interchangeable (the steel on the blue ones is too corroded to plate again unfortunately, so I want to know if the aluminium parts can be transferred). Fortunately it's the big Jap classic show in a month or so in the UK, so hopeful I'll pick up a lot of knowledge and hopefully some parts. I'm not going for total originality, and the bike will be used so it won't be concours but I want it shiny :-)
