My kick starter was very loose. When I took the cover off, I found the bushing and case had a piece broken out inside. I made a replacement bushing ,installed it, and put it back together.
The kick start lever is still a little bit loose, not as bad as it was. I was looking at some parts someplace, maybe E-bay, and saw a replacement kick start. It came with this coiled washer that looked kind of like a heavy spring. I didn't see anything like this when I took mine apart. Is there supposed to be something like this on the shaft to keep the kick starter tight?
My starter is shot. It has a short someplace in the stator. I found a used one on E-Bay and it should be here tomorrow. Maybe I won't need the kick starter :)

Its a 66 CB77. I posted a few pictures of it in the post called "New Superhawk Owner" about a week ago.
The kick starter spring works well, this isn't the spring I was talking about. What I mean my loose is it has a lot of play. The spring type washer looks like it may add a bit of tension to reduce the play.
I don't see it shown in the parts catalog. Here is a picture of it:

My starter came today, and it works great!
Thanks,
Dave

That spring is for the pedal -- see attached screenshot, item 19.
On mine, the circlip (item 23) was missing, allowing the lever to flop about a bit in the bushing. I fitted a 16mm stainless circlip -- floppiness solved. I may get another, slightly larger, for 'those' moments....... Can't afford Viagra!

Thanks for the info. My new favorite thing has been to search the internet for all things CB77 :) I made my own bushing and I see it isn't exactly like the original, so I am sure this is part of the problem.
Oh well, we drained the fluids and moved it down in the basement. It's all coming apart again for some clean up, polish and paint this winter. I may work on this a bit more to see if I can get some play out. I hear lots of hair spray helps... hmmm. :)
