Hi skampdaddy,
First, get LM's timing recipe, then start with your main jets. Then work your way through the metering circuits. Main, needle, pilot, idle screw. The key is to do ONE change at a time. You are probably not that far off, but why do you want all your power so high in the RPMs?
If any two metering changes "feel" the same, always go with the richer of the two. The task is to get all the metering circuits to blend into each others' ranges seamlessly—they all affect each other at the fringes of their metering ranges.
Just keep good notes and you'll actually teach yourself a lot about carburators. The amazing this is that they even work!
What sprocket do you plan on running? 305 racer knows all about using straight-pipes.
