Post by kevinl » Sun Jun 26, 2005 3:29 pm

Hi all, i am very new in here. My uncle just gave me 1966 Honda Dream CA77 305cc. The transmission shaft shifter is broke and I am trying to fit it or order vintage part to replace. I don't know how to to operate its speeds, i was trying to kick forward and shift backward, i was trying several time and it turned to neutral ! Frankly, i don't know how many speed of this bike. Could you anyone show me how to operate this?
1st speed i need to press forward? and 2nd and 3rd?

Thanks so much in advance.
Ok, well fist off welcome to the forum. Fist off I was wondering how much experience you have with motorcycles. This Dream will shift the same as any other normal bike. Down for first up for second thru fourth. Does your bikes neutral light work? IF so then if it were in gear the blue light would be off. Also the back part is connected to the front piece as you should be able to see. When you push down on the back it's the same as shifting up on the front.

If you need parts search the site for links, but I like ohiocycle.com but there are many others.
Ryan, thanks so much for your help. I tried to shift transmission based on what you show me. it's worked but i had a hard time to return it back to neutral. I think this is another problem of old oil i will clean and change oil when i replace the trans. shaft.
And thank you for your parts information.

Regards,
Kevin.

Ryan, you are a nice person, thanks so much for your help again. These days, i play around with this vintage old bike.
Ryan, as I mentioned above, the transmission shaft is broke. I need a transmission shaft and shifter lever for this bike. I can't find part transmission shaft and shifter for honda ca77 on ebay. I found one for Honda CB77 (NOT CA77) I am not sure it will fits my CA77 or not. If you know where i can buy the right parts for transmission, please let me know. I checked ohiocycle.com but i didn't not see it.

Thanks so much in advance.
Kevin.

yeah, i'm really not sure either if a CB77 will work either. Try comparing the parts, that's what i end up doing a lot.

Also did you try calling them? it may not be listed. IF so and they still don't have it there is a place on this website were you can sent out a parts request. It's never yealeded favarable resutls for me, but somone has always emaild me saying they have the parts.

i will also post a few other ideas for you if that doesnt' work.
Ryan, I called ohiocyle yesterday and asked for transmission shaft and shifter lever, they told me the prices: CA77 Trans. shaft cost $100 and Shifter lever costs $50 plus shipping fees.
Do you think they are so expensive? I really don't know the parts price much, thus, your ideas are very helpful. (I am about restroring this old bike, and hopefully i can make it)

Thanks Ryan,
Kevin.
