CA77 Screws
CA77 Screws
Hi All,

I wandered over to my local hardware/parts store yesterday looking for some screws to replace the two that hold the points cover to the side of the head. (they were mangled when I got the bike) I was thinking that I was dealing with a standard 5mm screw, however when I got to searching I couldn't find any matches for thread pitch in the metric range. Does anyone know if these screws are available to buy? or am I looking at firing up my Dad's Lathe and turning some myself?

Thanks
Rick

Re: CA77 Screws
Rick,
Sorry if some of this is obvious and the rest isn't all that helpful but I have been helped tremendously by this forum and just want to give back some. First, the screws need to be metric and second--this is the part I'm unsure of--there apparently is more than one thread size or pitch or ?. One is called ISO and I think this is an earlier type. then there is at least one more (Later?) type. Somewhere on this forum there is a reference to ISO but I can't find it now. Someone else on the forum hopefully will respond with more helpful info. Good Luck.
Bob

Re: CA77 Screws
i have not come accross any 5mm bolts on my bike, only 4 and 6 most of the engine bolts have been 6mm x 1

that probably doesn't help you but i have a 65 honda dream, what years yours and where's this bolt located at? I'll be able to tell you then what it is.

thanks.

Hmmm I thought they were 5mm, anyway the screws that hold the points cover on.
The typical screws of that size at the hardware store were too fine to mesh with the threads on the screw I brought in.

Thanks
Rick
McMaster Carr are a good sourse for all kinds of parts! I have gotten parts for my MGA and for an old house I am redoing! If it wasn't for them and Outwater Plastics I would be lost.
Old bikes like old men, sometimes you have to kick start them
