chrome rims

Hey everyone , looking for some input on re chroming rims or should i powder coat them a color? the rims have pits in them and also I have a chrome front fender and chrome side covers that I would like to paint or maybe powder coat them. Wondering if anybody has done this. My bike is a 62 CB77 hope someone has had experience with this thanks Chris.

Union Cycle rims from a guy called TC -- vintage_001 on eBay -- are well-made and probably the same price as a re-chrome. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Don't bother with Apex Cycle's rims; I say this, not from personal experience, but from others' comments here about abysmal quality on some of his products, and his poor -- some would say 'non-existent' -- customer-relations.

W-e-e-e-e-ll, as I've stated in other posts, I have had good experiences with Apex (Tom Day) in the past; I bought one of his wheel trueing rigs, an AM rear flipper and something else which escapes me, at present. I was pleased with all the items and more than pleased with his service. BUT....... others have had really raw deals, so I seem to be the only one here with a good word for the guy; AND I don't want to be the arsehole that gives our Hondabuddies a bum steer! So, walk away.......

PLUS there's a mention somewhere on the forum that the Apex rims have the spoke holes at the wrong angle and/or size! And their mufflers are total shite..... Somebody schtopp meeeeee......

Like I said: walk away. At least until Tom makes an effort to right his wrongs and lets us all know.

Are the Vintage_001 rims the correct WM1 front and WM2 rear? Yes, I'm one of the folks that had the spoke angle/hole size "difficulties" with the Acme, er Apex, rims. Those turned out to be about the most expensive rims I've ever obtained, after all was corrected, rechromed, etc. Thanks, Chase

Chase, I'm not familiar with that annotation, but the tickets on mine showed 2.75 x 18 and 3.00 x 18. I measured their widths, with a Vernier gauge, and compared the measurements with my OEM wheels -- identical. They are a very satisfactory gauge of steel, beautifully chromed and even have radially-stamped tyre bead grippers. OK, they ain't OEM, but they do suit my forthcoming rebuild. I also researched TC's spokes (with him) -- his factory will manufacture spokes in cad-, chrome- or zinc-plate, plus stainless. I went for chromed, in the end, as I want the lowest maintenance and, being from the marine sector, I have an aversion to the dissimilar metal mixing of stainless and alloy (hubs). Chrome is easy to maintain with just a wipe from a shot-of-WD40-on-a-rag, after cleaning. And I live Med-coastal, so the salt air would start a stainless/alloy reaction in a heartbeat.

Zinc.... or was it cad(?)..... I seem to remember Ed stating, would be closest to OEM; that's what new Hondas were supplied with. But it wasn't chrome or stainless.
