Just purchased parts bike. Any info from the pros?

Post by cyclon36 » Sat Jun 19, 2010 10:22 pm

Thanks to a great ebay find by thumper, I just brought this one home today for $200. I need to double check the engine but the frame VIN is: CB771022773. Any clues to the year? Miles are listed at just over 17k.

The bike was from florida originally so there is a good bit of rust. Tank is really bad on the inside and probably not salvageable. The bits and pieces seem to be good though. The seat is definitely not from a CB. The front was held on with wire. Not sure which bike it belonged to originally but it does say honda in the back. Kick start is gone, chain is gone, front fender is chopped. Speedo looks to be in decent shape but the gasket is worn so there is a bit of condensation inside. The face is a bit faded or more so than mine anyway. Mufflers and headers are aftermarket as best as I can tell.

I'm hoping to salvage the engine to use for parts when I rebuild mine incase any part is better. The rear fender will be swapped out with mine since it's in better shape and the brackets for the footrests. I also plan on salvaging the damper if possible. Everything else will be parted out from the bike after I give it a once over with the wire wheel to see exactly what we're dealing with.

Any input/feedback? Feel free to make parts request with reasonable offers

Well, bike seemed to come apart easily. Still trying to figure out how to remove the triple tree brackets. Broke the steering damper in the process, it was just too weak from the rust to be wrenched on. Anyway, items are all up on ebay if anybody is interested: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/kozinojoe/m ... rom=&_ipg=

I hope that link works. More parts on the way.

When in doubt, get some really good penetrating oil and let soak at least overnight. I have found Sili-Kroil to be the best.

Thanks. I use liquid wrench on all rusty parts overnight. I've also been using evaporust with amazing results on some of the pieces. I think the damper was just destined to go. It was in pretty bad shape.

I am late to this thread, but do you have the front brake for sale? I want to use it on my 350cc vintage Honda racebike.

I still have the fenders, tank, forks, engine, and complete wheels. I don't plan on selling those as I want to have backups to do modifications on. I love the idea of having a cafe racer but want to have the option of always taking it back to 100% stock. So...the drums will be drilled out eventually. Sorry.
