Speedometer reads twice as fast

Post by Kevmcp » Sat Jul 10, 2010 6:26 pm

Hi everyone. I just took my speedo apart, very clean on the inside, put a new sticker on the face, and lightly oiled the parts. Now the speedo is reading about 3 or times faster than the speed I am actually going. Did I accidentally re-calibrate something I shouldn't have? Is there something I oiled I shouldn't have? It looks beautiful, new chrome bezel, etc, and was working perfectly before cleaning it out. Help! Thanks!

In my experience with Dream speedos you have to use an extremely light oil for lubrication.

Heavy oil creates a drag and makes it read much higher than it should.

I used sewing machine/all purpose oil. So what should I do now? Yikes!

You could try cleaning everything with brake kleen and try to find a lighter oil, maybe something like the oil used for electric hair trimmers.
