Took her for a ride!
First I would like to thank everyone involved with these forums. Your help has been priceless throughout the process of restoring my Dream.
In 70 I was given my Dream as a gift from my brother when he went off to Viet Nam. I spent the next three years riding whenever I had the chance, and it wasn't snowing, throughout Northern Ohio.
I then gave her to my Dad when I moved to Florida in '73. Dad rode her for a couple of years and then "sold" her to friends for $50.
They rode her for awhile and then parked her in thier barn in '76.
My daughter raced karts all over the country for a number of years and in '97 we were going to be racing in Ohio. Since I knew we would have our truck and trailer up there I decided to track down my Dream.
Low and behold it was still in the barn. Our friends then gave her back to me and we brought her back to Florida (they even left me a gift in the form of a dead mouse behind the headlight).
So I proceeded to completely dismantle her thinking that after I had the frame and fenders painted (front fender still had the dent from when I used to take her out in the fields and attempted to jump her over dirt mound) I would be putting her back together again.
Well, got busy and didn't get to it until about a month ago.
Now she is done. With the exeption of the frame painting and seat reupholtering, and the help of the forums and Bill Silver's guides, I did it myself.
On Saturday, after "priming" the carb, I turned the key to start, hit the button without a full revolution she started. The timing was almost spot on and I took her for her first ride in over 30 years.
Ahhh the memories.
Thanx again!
dan

Re: Took her for a ride!
The clutch was near impossible to adjust correctly and required a thrust washer to release it. But, still could not hit neutral when the bike was running as there was still a load on the clutch even with the lever depressed.
I originally thought that cleaning the discs in solvent would allow them to work properly. But found that I needed to replace them with new as they were still not separating.
Now the clutch works as I remember it working back in the early 70's.
dan
