Carb type ID CB77

Post by chrisnoel » Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:02 pm

Hello.

To start with, does the #26 on the side of my carburetor means that I have the type PW26 carburetors on my CB77?

My manual tells me to set the float height to 22.5mm but my floats are set at somewhere around 30mm. YIKES!

I am measuring the float height with the carbs upsidedown and I have to lift the floats slightly so that the spring inside the shut off valve is not compressed. Next I'm measuring the float height from the gasket base with the gasket removed. Does this all sound right?

At any rate I have the carbs dipped and reassembled so I do want to make sure the float height is correct. Had to dip them twice they were so bad. I've never seen so much varnish, dirt, and grease on the outside of a set of carburetors. Could have had something to do with the drain screws being missing. I wouldn't think the thing would run like that but the varnish build up was pretty thick inside the threads of the drain holes. Looked like the screws had been missing as long as the bike itself had been neglected. The crud must have kept most of the gas inside the bowles.

Perhaps my questions are hidden in too much other information.

1. Am I measuring my float height correctly?
2. Have I ID'd my carbs correctly as PW26?
3. Is the correct float height for my carbs 22.5mm?

Yes to all 3.
Make sure to remove all jets and squirt carb cleaner, compressed air or something thru all the passages you can find to make sure they are all clear. They are very small and simply dipping doesn't always do the job completely.

Thanks.

I did blow them out with carb spray and compressed air after I dipped them. I must be measuring wrong as the float brackets are bottoming out on the needle seats. I'll have to stew on it for a while till the solution comes up.
