Difference in steering stem for "early" and "

Post by nc_rider » Thu Dec 30, 2010 9:39 pm

I'm trying to sort out a problem I'm having fitting my bridge plate back onto my steering stem and forks and am wondering if someone knows the difference between the steering stems for the early and late models of CA77.

The parts list shows two different bridge plates, and two different steering stems.

My theory is the "later" steering stem dropped the forks down about 1/8" (to slightly alter handling?). Because the steering stem dropped the forks down a little the bridge plate for the later models has a slightly different bend and location of the hole for the steering stem.

If someone has both steering stems and can set them side by side to confirm OR if someone can confirm this then I'd appreciate it.

You can see the gap I'm seeing with the bridge plate that I have here.. and here's where Clarence compared his "early" and "late" bridge plate to confirm the changes in them. I also posted up some pics of different bridge plates in this topic a while back.

Also related.. my parts book only shows one number for all years of the CA77 front forks. Is that correct? Is the top of the forks for all years shaped like this?
