Early CA77 - 1961

Post by Hahnda » Sun Sep 23, 2012 12:25 pm

This one has me a bit puzzled. I took a look at the info on serial numbers and years and this one doesn't fit in as far as I can tell.

Frame # - CA77 - 80194

Engine # - CA77E - 280162

Wiring harness is marked 1961.

According to info I have the 1961 numbers should be in the ranges below.

CA77 Engine
CA77E-110001-111400

CA77 Frame
CA77-10001-11980

As you can see the bike is in pretty rough condition. I do have the fender and chain case. Engine is stuck. Wiring harness is black instead of gray. Plate holder is spot welded to the frame and is of different design but looks to be stock. Left sidecover looks like it is not held in place with the normal knob? There is a bracket there instead?

I'm not good at numbers but it is certainly an early one. It's not all that bad. Being an early one it would be nice to see it brought back.

Kevin

That's really interesting and I have no explanation for you. The welded plate holder is right for early bikes. What does the tag on the wiring harness say? The harness on my 1960 Dream C77 is black also.

The number on my 1960 Dream is C77 - A10268 so that doesn't help either.....

Tag on wiring harness says 1961.

After looking around a bit I was able to see that the plate holder bracket was stock.

It may be possible that this is a 1962 model? Maybe the leading 2 on the motor number is denoting 1962?

The numbers are totally off the wall and just don't make any sense.

It was issued in 1962.
If you look to the right side of the above list you can figure that out.
The number on the harness isn't the year the bike was issued just the year the harness was issued. .........lm

The numbers still don't match up with what's on the list.

Frame should be in the 20001-20851 range and this one is 80194.
Engine should be in the 21001-210850 range and this on is 280162.

I do agree that it is probably a '62.
