Clutch pulls hard

Post by Ford Guy » Tue Oct 02, 2012 5:36 am

One of the things I would like to address this winter is what I think is excessive effort to pull the clutch in on my 1966 Cl 77. During the rebuild I noticed some of the bolts and springs were mismatched on the clutch. I used the bolts from my parts bike and the original fibers and steels. I do not recall the clutch pulling this hard back in the day when I bought a CL brand new. The cable is new and well lubricatd. As far as I know it is assembled correctly. The clutch will slip in 3rd gear when you first let it out but after it gets hooked up it seems ok. I would like to find a new or used setup and give that a try as I really do not know what I have. Any help would be appreciated

Anybody? I have this same issue on my wife's 67, 305 Dream. The top end was redone at Charlies Place in SF as well as his electronic ignition was installed. Clutch was looked at because it tended to lurch went putting into 1st gear when cold. I checked cable routing, checked the spring on the clutch mech(inside cover). All looks good and the cable pulls smooth when not under load. If anyone has a possible fix, my wife would be very happy. Ultimately that is the goal, right?

Is the clutch lifter adjusted/lubed properly? Back both end adjusters on the clutch cable completely off, then adjust the clutch lifter on the engine side cover to the right clearance before making any cable slack adjustments.
