Help With Header Pipes, Please!

Post by Muddy » Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:08 am

G'day Guys

Just putting the old girl back together and bought a new set of repo header pipes from Thailand. Went to fit them and noticed one is stamped "S" and one "L" - is that for short and long? However both seem the same length. Checked the original pipes and they are stamped the same - one "S" and one "L".

So which is which and is there any difference as they all look the same?
Thanks.

Regards

Muddy

Right and Left Header

Muddy, Search this site. IIRC there is a "correct" side for each and the "L" is left

G'day conbs

Thanks. I did try the search before I posted, but didn't come up with much - maybe my search skills are not up to par? Searched header pipes, correct side header pipes etc, but found lots of irrelevent posts.

Very happy if someone can point me in the right direction of any previous posts.
Thanks.

Regards

Muddy

This a pic I took for one of the posts.

If you mount the two mufflers you will see that the front end of one mounts ahead of the other - hence the different length pipes.

If you don't have OEM mufflers then you don't need to worry.....

Headers

Post by conbs » Sat Oct 20, 2012 12:44 pm

Muddy, I tried a search for "headers" in the Dream Forum only. Check the icon in the lower left for "posts". I did get a lot of posts using that search and didn't go through them all. If you take some time to read them I am pretty sure you will find what you are after. Finding the answers to details like this does take a long time. But sometimes you do need to find the answer.

When I took mine off to detail my bike, I had seen a post noting there was a difference so I marked the end with "left" and "right". It may be that you can try a loose fit to see how your pipes fit the best. If they really are different, you should be able to see which one is shorter. In any event you should be able to find the best fit.

Hope that helps.

G'day conbs and G-man

Thanks for your responses. I can see a bit more of a detailed search and investigation is required here.

G-man, it was in fading light yesterday afternoon when I checked, but I laid one genuine header pipe on top of the other and they looked the same. Did the same with the repos and then also cross-checked the genuine and repos. All very confusing.

Thanks to you both for your responses, I'll check again today and see what I come up with.
Thanks.
