Special Crankshaft Nut Removal...

The nut that would otherwise be removed with a special 4-prong tool (shaft that holds two sprockets one for oil filter and one for clutch) ...... Is this nut reverse threaded or not??? I don't have the tool and it seems unduly hard to loosen going CCW. Thanks for any guidance and suggestions. DTS

It's regular threads, CCW to loosen. Big screwdriver or chisel and dead-blow hammer should do it.

I am having a bear of a time with this same nut. I found the locking tab and got it out of the way, but the dang thing wont loosen. How much force do you think I can pound on this thing with and not break anything?

You can use as much as it takes to loosen it. Use a large screwdriver or chisel and a small sledge or dead-blow hammer. The real danger is in slipping off the nut or missing with the hammer and hitting something else...

So far...... 3 attempts, no one on eBay has the correct size special tool for this application
in spite of their item descriptions to the contrary. I beat on my clutch nut hard but no go yet.

Obtain an Armstrong 34-305 adjustable hook spanner wrench. I've used one for about a decade, and it has functioned just fine for both the crankshaft nut and the camshaft drive nut. Regards, Chase
