Starter engages when key turned on

Post by adsVA83 » Tue May 12, 2015 8:57 am

I'm working on a 1964 CA77. I have a wiring diagram and have everything at the starter solenoid hooked up correct. When i turn the ignition key on, the starter spins, without touching the starter button. Is there a short, bad ground somewhere that would be causing this? Wiring hooked up incorrcet?

It could be the wire for the starter button shorting. Perhaps carefully take the throttle on the handle bars apart and see if the issue stops and then if there is a bare wire.

Fixed it! I took the starter button housing apart and the wire have about 1/2" on the end that was exposed and grounding itself out. I put some heat shrink on the exposed wire, cleaned everything up while i was in there, and now it works as it should.
