CA77 Battery Trays

Post by TOOLS1 » Thu Jan 28, 2016 8:49 pm

I am trying to restore a 1960 CA 77 Dream, and have a question about the battery trays. The tray on this bike was in rough shape, so I carefully drilled the spot welds and removed it. I then found one on ebay that was in very good shape that was still attached to a chunk of frame. I just removed it from the chunk of frame and went to install it onto the project frame. However when I went to put it on, the new one is a lot shorter then the one that was on the frame. Did Honda use two different battery trays, or could the short one be from another model?

Yes, two different trays. Yours would be the longer, thinner one.

Thanks for confirming that. I guess I am on the hunt for another battery tray.

I have updated a couple of early dreams to the later battery tray because it makes battery buying a LOT easier and has no cosmetic downside. you might want to consider using what you have in hand. the tool trays interchange (kinda). you will need to go to a later cover as well.
Good luck

That is an option, but I am doing this for a customer, and it is going to be an original restoration. This is a very early bike, and was in really good shape. The battery tray was the only damaged part on the bike, and that was because of battery acid getting on it.
I do have a really nice 63 frame, and was thinking of using the battery tray off it, but it kills me to cut up that frame because of how good of shape it is in. I guess I could swap the later battery tray onto it though. Something to think about.
