You might be asking what a 10ft restore is. Its a restore that looks perfect from 10ft away. I'm not going to worry about the smallest of details but it will be nice. I have been wanting something that I could ride to vintage events 30 miles away. My CL70 just doesn't cut it. This will be a journey with many picture as my journalism isn't the best.

The picture I was given before the purchase. Only a couple things I knew for sure. 1-Hasn't run in 35 years. 2-Kick starter doesn't "catch"

BTW I have a vintage show I would like to attend on the bike this August 5th. It's going to be a quick one.

Started to tear it down and have found some not so good things. The carbs were in bad shape. Over the years of rebuilding carbs I have some tools to assist in the process. First was a soak in cleaner. I tried Berryman for the first time and it was a mistake. It oxidized the carbs. Something I have not has happen with Gunk. Because of this after the cleaning I decided to glass bead the exterior of the carbs.

Was time to investigate the kick starter issue. After talking to some older fellas in the vintage club I tried a kerosene soak to see if the spur was stuck from sitting for the last 35 years. After a couple days of no progress I decided to split the case. Was surprised in what I found. Appears the bearing failed and seized. This caused the main shaft to twist and split. It appears sometime in the process the gears slid over and destroyed the gears. I needed to purchase a new transmission. The bearings, cylinders and chases look good.

The frame isn't much better. Appears Honda failed on creating a rigid fender system. Not sure which broke first but the rear grab bar is broke and the rear fender is trashed. Believe I will slide a solid bar inside the grab bar and weld it together. I'm on the fence about the fender. As of now I am searching for one but they are getting some good money. Seat mound is a scab as well.

Looks like you have all of the 'usual' problems to tackle. You just need to find a drop in transmission. Make sure you have a CL or CB as the CA gears are not undercut.

Don't throw that fender away as it might be your best option.....

I did pick up a trans off eBay. It arrived and looks good and shall be installed this weekend. Is there a petcock that can be used that's not an OEM? They seem to pulling a good amount.

Installed new trans and kick looks and feels good. A little cleaning this weekend and will start to hammer and dolly the fenders. Painter backed out so trying to figure it out. Rear fender has some brazing and cheap body filler. Shows how old the repairs are.
