My Stuck Pistons SOLVED

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Tue Dec 04, 2018 3:28 pm

Awhile back I posted somewhere in here (before it got buried by all the spam) that I had some really stuck pistons I couldn't even press out; well, in case anybody was wondering, after soaking them in all sorts of concoctions and waiting, and pounding, and waiting, and heating, and waiting, and soaking, I finally took a hole cutter and cut down the crowns - they were crapped out anyway - and wound up taking a cold chisel and just pounding the everloving daylights out of them.

The chisel blade was a perfect fit for the diameter of the pistons and I beat those things like they owed me money. I went around in a circle to spread out the impact, and they finally popped free, with no scoring or damage to the cylinders. Took about two hours, though. Rust was the culprit for the seizure, and not a lack of oil. But at least they're out! And the con-rods are still good too. My machinist says all they need is a good hone, so That's all good.

Anybody have two serviceable 305 pistons they don't want ?? :)

I have a pair of “reasonable” pistons, Doc, but not sure of their size/oversize. I’ll be back in UK at the weekend, so I’ll do some measuring...

Oh, man! Thanks, that would be awesome! PM me with what you want for them.
My pistons measured at 60mm - I believe that's Standard size, but I'll double check.

Random Question: have you ever used a Carbtune or Colorune on a Dream 305?

Yup - my cylinders measure 59.85 all the way down, give or take one or two hundredths.
