Stymied - I put low bars on my CL and the new clutch cable I bought (specified for the CL77 measuring 33") is just about 4 inches too short. So I tried a CA77 cable 44 inches long and I can't get the cable tight enough to have a functioning clutch.
1. why won't the longer cable work and,
2. what is the standard length clutch cable for my 1965 CL77. this is getting to be a costly clutch cable. Thank you guys.

clutch cable
abert,
My stock 66 CL77 clutch cable is estimated at least 44'' long. I don't know squat about low bars, but are the new cables designed NOT to be routed under the tank? A 10'' difference is a lot! Are there troubles with the brake and throttle cables also?

clutch cable CL77
the shorter cable (33 inches) won't run under the tank as it is nowhere long enough. the longer cable (43 - 44 inches) I routed outside the tank and it stuck way out. Maybe if I route the longer cable up under the tank in might work. Meanwhile I just ordered a 38 inch cable from McDowls site. Try, try again. If it works, I'm riding it for the first time. thank you for your responses.

Yeah, the longer (44") worked when routed up under the tank. Thank you.

clutch cable length
Glad to hear it worked out for you. Is it the look you wanted...with the cable under the tank?

CL 77 clutch cable
routed under the tank and along the spine of the frame ia a great look, neat, no radical bends, and functional. Remember it is a CA 77 cable and except for the 4 inck metal sheeth at the clutch handle end, fits the CL and CB nicely. I eased the metal sleeve/sheeth a bit to make the turn to the handle more gradual.
