Hi,

I think carbs are made of ZAMAC an alloy of zinc aluminum, magnesium and copper.
Yes, zinc is one of the main ingredients,

Sorry about the confusion. Carburetors are usually made from ZAMAK=Zinc+aluminum (%4)+magniseum (about %2.5) and copper(about %.025). It is a zinc base alloyed with other metals to make cleaner castings since pure zinc gets what is called "zinc pest" during casting. If you have Brit made carbs they are probably made from MAZAK, which has %.04 less pure zinc. NBD

is it pretty safe to use vinegar on my carbs then?

If i wanted to dip it in a solution... would you pick pinesol or vinegar (apple cider vinegar btw).

Hi,

No, but when paying attention to the following points, it is save and harmless.

- get all brass parts out, especially the jets.
- do it in steps, 10 minutes to 15 minutes, then rinse with (warm) water to neutralize the vinegar.
- clean the carb after soaking in water, get all the dirt off with a toothbrush, and decide if it neccecary to do it again.

If you decided it is nice enough, rinse with water again, and dry with pressed air, especially the narrow holes.

Let it dry and buff it up with a dry cloth,
