The gear with the warn dogs is one which is moved when the gears are "X'ed" and I'll need to check if the change in direction will allow this gear to be usable. I'll need to check this in the shop later this week. ......................lm
Victory!OK, I found a NOS 2nd gear, did the 2x3 gear Xing, and as of Sunday AM she shifts and stays in gear! The main problem was the rounded dog edges. Beautiful new gear is in its position as 3rd gear on the countershaft. By the way, I am another who greatly prefers the more even spacing of the Xed gears. The stock arrangement seems like a racing setup, where you want 3 and 4 very close, and are willing to have a big jump fro 1 to 2, but that doesn't work for my relaxed style.
I was a little worried because the dogs barely engage in 2nd gear, looks like the shift fork needs to be bent to the right, but it appears straight, and the local Honda shop says the oversize cotters used to adjust the "fixed" gear positions are NLA, so I buttoned it up and it seems fine. At least the parts guy took me to the back room to show me his CB 77 that he is restoring. Thanks again to all for your excellent advice and guidance. Larry - Pasadena
