assembling transmission question. Is this noise normal?

So the new offset cotter are in (much better). Gears spin freely and engage properly but, when i assemble the case halves (just test fitting) and install the shift stopper hardware i get a clicking noise when i spin the shafts. Its not the clicking from the k/s paul, it's when i rotate them the other way. If i rotate the k/s shaft about 1/8 turn and hold it in that position everything spins freely with no noise. What's going on here? I was thinking that when the k/s assembly is put together maybe the return spring applys rotational pressure to the K/s shaft so this isn't really an issue? I could be wrong though. I thought i remember reading a post on the 305 forum but i couldnt find it again.

Yes, that's normal, the kickstarter pawl is retracted by the kick starter spring just like you said.
