stuck clutch

Post by redtr4 » Thu Mar 10, 2016 8:27 am

Think I already know the answer to this but anyone know of way to free stuck clutch w/o disassembly and individually separating the plates? Know from bad past experience that trying to free up by dumping into gear while running not a good idea.... thanks for any suggestions Kurt

Mine sticks anytime it sat for awhile so I put it in high gear, take the bike off its stand, and just rock the bike back and forth (but not too hard). That usually gets mine to release.

If that doesn't work for you, you will probably have to remove the clutch.

My Dream has sat for about 6 months and the clutch was stuck when I fired it up. I just put new gaskets after an engine/transmission rebuild and was hoping to not break that seal again.

I will try this, crossing my fingers!

Yes - 5/16 ball in there...

So how did your front hub problem work out? Did you see my pictures?

Push start bike, while riding pull clutch in and start applying rear brake, do that for a bit and it will break loose.
Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had.

Can't shift out of gear

Post by d2d » Thu Mar 31, 2016 9:13 pm

From cold start bike runs fine and shifts for about 8 miles. Then will not shift out of gear or into neutral. HOWEVER, generally once I turn off the ignition, wait a few seconds, it will find neutral. New development is that if I attempt to shift at low rpms it will, but then even that stops working. The entire shifting seems to have become randomly screwed up to the point where I can't offer any better explanation except that I need to do the obvious: bring the bike to normal shifting. The '65 305 is very well cared for, not abused or even ridden hard. I have owned it since 1974. Help is greatly appreciated.
