A Short Video

Post by Spargett » Fri Dec 17, 2010 1:41 am

I shot a short video a while ago after installing a pair of new Amal's on the bike as soon as I returned from a 2,500 mile trip on it. I just came across it and thought I'd share.

For anyone's who's not a familiar, here's a thread of the bike's restoration

Very nice... speaking as a long time Scrambler purist, I really like the way you have your CB set up, sort of a super stocker look, those pipes sound great!
After reading Vince's posts on the Amal's, I'd be interested to hear your opinion about them after you've had a chance to run them awhile.
I'm so close to getting my CL's Keihins syced under throttle that I'm almost afraid to touch them.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response. The Amals were a great improvement over my Keihins. I tried everything I could to get them to remain consistent but they were shot. Its so hard to get a decent set and I'd say near impossible to find NOS, I went with the next best alternative. They've work great thus far once jetted and tuned properly.

Though my right tickler is acting up. Instead of depressing and holding it to push the float down and flood the carb to prime it, it won't seem to stay open, very odd. I have to push it a number of times over and over to flood the carb. It's getting proper fuel fed, and the floats aren't adjustable. I'm kinda stumped as to what the problem could be. I've taken it apart a few times to try and find anything, but there's nothing going on that I can find. You can see the tickler there on the side.

the tickler

I love it!! Very admirable work, impressive finish, but you say it doesn't laugh when you tickle it? Is it possible that the tickle plunger isn't reaching the float?

I'm wondering if the forward canting of the carbs is affecting the float level at the pilot jet intake?

Most Amals I can remember are on vertical twins, and if not, they had curved intake runners keeping the carbs more level.

Just a thought.
