Has anyone tried to fit one of those new "dry" bat

Post by Paul Strassmaier » Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:11 am

I've got a 61 dream that has takes the narrow style battery and I want to try out one of those new dry batteries, I think they're lithium. I've seen them on ebay for the late dream. Has anyone used on in an early dream? Will it fit?

Thanks,

Paul

Haven't tried one, but did some research on them. You can damage them if you go above 14.4 volts, not a good thing since the dream has no voltage regulator and will go above that. There's more information on this thread;

I went with the AGM battery. It fits in my early Dream with room to spare and plenty of cranking power. I used the battery in this link;

Early Dream Battery

Paul, G-man put up a post with a link showing a guy that altered the battery hold down to accept a battery that is a little taller. That battery is readily available. That mod probably deserves consideration.

Also, before you give up on a battery, try de-sulfating it.

Thanks for the advice! This bike gets run just a few times a year, so I thought the dry would work good, just move to another Honda the rest of the year. Voltage is a concern... I'll read up, thanks!

The AGM is a good choice. They hold the charge better than a wet cell, don't have to worry about fluid level and with a battery maintainer you should get excellent life out of one.
