New to Forum, My 160 Dream dies when i turn on accessorys

Post by Lothre » Thu Oct 25, 2007 4:03 pm

Hello,
I can't tell you how happy I am to find a forum for these bikes. I have been a Honda dream owner since 1986, when I got my first Dream from my favorite uncle Dennis. A 1962 160 Dream. In 1990 I bough a 1965 305 dream to add to the collection.

The problem I am having with my 160 (aside from the fact that it has been sitting nearly 15 years) is that it dies if i try to turn on the horn or lights. My guess is the magneto / generator. I am embarassed to say that I have not put a wrench to this bike seriously since I parked it beside my entertainment center in my living room 15 years ago, so I have lost about 85% of my savy and knowledge of these bikes.

Can anyone help me figure this out or direct me to where / who has the replacement part I need to get her running down the road again (at night anyways).

Also, the fuel / petcock is leaking like a faucet. Are there exact replacements or aftermarket alternatives I can buy?

Again, ecstatic there is a place for owners of these historic, fun, and incredible bikes to meet and share information with each other. Fan-Tastic!

William

hi, you can get rebuild kits for those petcocks on ebay. it's the same kit the 305 uses. you might need a new rectifier. i think that radio shack conversion might work in a 6v system too. it sounds like your lights are robbing your points of power. can you turn on your lights when the it's revved up a little? i'm no expert. just trying to help. i wonder if there's a forum out there that might know more about the CA95 models?

I used the radio shack conversion on my CT90 6 volt system and it works just fine for the last two years.

A CA160 is NOT a dream - it's a Benly.

This is one of my pet annoyances......

Its not a Dream or a Benly. The Benly's were the 150cc version.

Hi there. The Benly name refers to the 150cc CA95 model and never the 160cc. The CA160 is commonly referred to as a dream though.
