I think I'm going to start a collection of all the information about blackwall tires for the CA77 Honda Dream. It's kind of strewn about the site and it gets asked regularly, so I figure it's a good idea. Let me know if it's not!
The CA77 came with 3.25 x 16 stock (inch system). This means the outer diameter of the wheel/rim is 16 inches, and the width (at the thickest part of the tire) is 3.25 inches. If you say you are looking for a 3.25 x 16 wheel, you'll be asking for the right size
Currently there are not that many companies that still produce this size. A good substitue is a 100/90-16 tire (metric system). This means that the width of the tire is 100mm (3.93 in) and the height of the tire is 90% of the width (or 100 x 0.9) = 90mm (3.54in). I need a little help explaining this one, because it seems like this tire would be too wide, but everyone keeps suggesting it... a graphic below shows conversions from metric in inch tire sizes. It was found at this site

Ok so that's all I have found based on my search of the net and this site. Please help to make sure I haven't made any mistakes. I think it would be good to put reviews of tires here too ( I can update the above info). Let me know what you think / if you have additions or subtractions!

Good info
This is good stuff. However, despite the info you've displayed which presumably comes from a reputable retailer, tire designation is based on wheel outside diameter, not tire outside diameter. I'm not sure what motorcycles to which "tirechart.jpg" refers, but it's not to any I've ever heard of.

Thanks for this info. I updated the post to reflect these changes. I also took that picture off because it was confusing, added some prices, and while at Road Riders in San Jose I found some 3.50 x 16 for 44.95 (picture attached)teazer wrote:I'd second Loudo's comments. It's the wheel that's 16", not the tire OD. Someone slipped there.
Greg could you send me those pictures and delete the link from your post? The link takes you to your hotmail account and I can't log in because it's your account! Can you download them and attach them in an e-mail and send it to joseph1@stanford.edu? Also, can you edit your post and delete the link from it? The length of it makes the forum go crazy having to scroll to the left and right. Thanks everyone for your input!greg78gs750 wrote:this ridiculously long link is to a pic of some cheng shin 325x16 tires available from bill at billsvintagewheels.com
