I've pretty much got the Dream 305 put back together. All electrical is hooked up except the horn and headlight, but only in a temporary way. I want to insure I'm getting spark.
Is there someone that could assist me in suggestions on what NOT TO DO while testing for spark at both plugs? Couple of things: 1. I do not have a correct battery and would like to either work off of No battery, my lawnmower 12v battery or a battery charger. 2. I've checked the starter and it works fine. Could someone start me off on this as I'm very nervous!!! I would prefer to use the starter motor to turn over it over as the entire bike is hanging about 2 feet off the ground and kicking it may take down my family room ceiling!!

Hook it up to your lawnmower battery.
Pull the plugs on both sides and install the plug wires back on. Rest the metal base of the plugs against the motor and, turn on the ignition and hit the start button.
You should see spark from both plugs as the motor turns over.

Second shot: Success!
Checked:
> Starter button (works great)
> spark to both sides (yup)
> Light rear (bright)
> Brake light rear (brighter)
> High and low beams front (nice)
> Horn: forgot to check - bummer (I tried it on the bench and did not get any sound)
I gotta drop the motor to re-torque the head. I torqued them down about 5 days ago and I checked two outside ones and got almost 3/4 of an additional turn on them before -click. Definitely would pay to re-torque these down a couple of times as I've read on numerous posts.
I then need to re-tighten all bolts, get a battery and some new plugs, put some oil in it and see if she's gonna fire up. Hopefully my timing chain is on and it's close on the timing. I'd hate to go back and re-do that part.
I'm quite relieved ....
