tail light mounting holes?

Post by maia » Mon Feb 22, 2010 8:59 pm

Hi guys, I'm about to drill some new mounting holes in a rear fender that previously had a great huge hole but has now been patched. Can anyone give me a dimension, say from the bottom of the tail light mount to the bottom lip of the fender? Thanks

Exactly five inches, along the curve of the fender.

Great! Thanks a lot, I believe there was a gasket of sorts between the two bits and I've heard wet suit material will work, anyone have a suggestion? Thanks again Loudo.

gasket

The parts catalog diagram does not show the presence of such a gasket, and my bike doesn't have one. Like yourself I think possibly maybe I might have heard of such a thing, perhaps. Wouldn't be a bad idea for vibration damping I suppose. I am by no means an expert on these bikes though....maybe models newer than mine had such gaskets but they weren't in the parts catalog.

No mounting gasket but there is a rubber plug sort of thing which has a hole for the wires to pass through and installs in the larger hole. ........lm

Your bracket needs to be electrically grounded through the fender for the lights to work. This needs to be a good metal to metal connection or you need to run a ground wire.
