1964 Royal Blue 305 Dream restoration nearing completion

Post by Need4Speed » Wed Sep 25, 2013 12:25 am

After 8 months of work in my spare time, this 1964 305 Dream is coming back to life. This was a total restoration, including new paint, complete engine overhaul (pistons, rings, valves, bearings, clutch, etc), complete fresh chrome plating, fresh zinc plating on all hardware, rebuilt seat (wrapping it up this week), all new wiring, new tires, new exhaust, rebuilt speedometer, and powder coated the peg bars, kick stands, seat frame, etc. Absolutely nothing was left untouched. All parts were completely restored. I was careful to maintain the authenticity, with a couple of exceptions - I used the Coker Firestone re-pops, because I couldn't source any originals. I also removed the anodizing on all the aluminum and magnesium parts, and polished them to a mirror finish. Everything else is true to the original. I am restoring this for my neighbor and close friend, who is the second owner, and who has owned this bike since 1965.

I can't post pictures of the entire finished bike until after I reunite the owner with his baby. He has not seen it since I started the restoration, and he may be snooping around the Honda Dream forums (right, Mark?)

It looks gorgeous! Fine job. Please consider replacing those metal tank badges with some original looking plastic ones. They are being reproduced and sold for $35 and look much nicer than the after issue metal badges. eBay item 161114443157.

Thanks very much

Thanks for the tank badge suggestion. I will do that. I really want this to be as original as possible, with the exception of the items I mentioned in my first post. If anyone has any more suggestions, I really want to hear it. Thanks, Tom
