Well, I think the reason why my gear pedal doesn't return to position after shifting is that the return spring is bad... I bought the spring but have yet to open up the case.
When I open up the case to get to that spring will I need to have any gaskets handy?

Not on the left side.
You can clean the oil filter and examine the clutch plates while you're in there. ................lm
