Clutch Center Springs and Bolts

Post by Dogsbd » Sat Mar 15, 2008 3:34 pm

Finally getting back to working on my CA77 project and I find a bolt broke off in the clutch center and of course a spring is missing as well. I order a spring and a bolt from my local Honda dealer before I completely disassembled the clutch (a mistake, I know).

Per the 1968 CA77 parts book I order:

22401-266-000 Clutch Spring

92101-06016 Clutch center bolt

The bolt comes in as a 92101-06016-0A and the spring is now a 22401-425-000.

I then pull out the clutch and remove the springs, plates etc. Finally get the broken bolt out too. Then I realize the remaining 3 bolts coming out of the center are about 10mm longer than the 16mm bolt I ordered per the parts book. Not a big deal I can pick up a longer bolt anywhere.

But then I notice the springs are longer than the one I ordered as well. The new one is ~34mm long and the old ones are ~36 mm long.

Unlike the bolt length, this does bother me. Do I order 3 more like the one shorter new one and use the shorter ones or do I need another that matches the longer length older 3 in the clutch? If I need to match the longer length, where do I get one?

After going back and double-checking myself in the parts book I now notice that it is not exactly clear on these springs as it calls for:

Qty of 4 of 22401-266-000 "Spring, clutch" on C77E serial A10001 .......

And then it also calls for:

Qty of 3 of 22411-266-000 "Spring, clutch free" on C77E serial A10001 …….. CA77E 211570

Any advise?

From the first to the last year of issue of these bikes HONDA made MANY CHANGES to ALL THE PARTS OF THE CLUTCH. At least 4 outers and 5 inters and 2 pressure plates along with 4 springs and 3 steel disc and 5 friction disc. NOW WHAT WAS YOUR QUESTION? MATCH THE SPRINGS AND BOLTS FOR SURE. ............lm

So I take it that 34mm or 36mm length springs doesn't matter so long as they're all the same.

I just did a CB77 clutch with the 425 spriings, and it is sweet. The pull is nice and light. Another member, Vince Lupo, also recently did his clutch with these springs, and is thrilled as well.
