How do I get this off?

Hello everyone,

I am breaking down my CA 77 and with 3 nuts left to go, I am stuck.

What's the trick to getting this bugger off the steering column, the square one. Is it threaded the standard way or backwards perhaps (if that's the case, I've just been hammering it on tighter).

I've been soaking it with pb blaster. It doesn't even appear to be rusty. Just stuck!

And, I don't have an impact wrench.

Also, does anyone know a good engine mechanic in so cal?

standard thread direction. i don't recall either of the ones i've yanked off being overly tight, used a big crescent and gave it a sharp rap with a little sledge. i don't have a ton of background though so ... there is probably a better way.

I was starting to think that with over 60 views at the post and no reply, that no one wanted to talk to me.

Std. direction, thats good, cuz I just came out of the garage from another hammering session. At least I know that I wasn't hammering it on tighter.

I had 2 guys holding down the frame while I whaled away. But, still know luck.....

There has got to be another way, but I guess I could always try a bigger hammer!

I'm definitely still looking for advice. I'll let you guys know when I get it off. Until then, I could use all the help I can get. I already got about 2.5 hours into this nut, and am ready to take the frame to get bead blasted.

have you put any heat to it ? heat always seems to loosen up the tighties.
just be sure to clean off the excess PBB first! flamescarred frames are fugly

Try a couple of good sharp blows down on the nut, as well as heat. I've alway had good luck with smacking nuts and bolts to break them loose. Also, more leverage, longer wrench, or pipe slid over for leverage.

I appreciate the suggestions fellas,

I had a pipe wrench with a long metal pipe on the end of it today with no luck. Tomorrow I will put a torch to it. Good tip about cleaning up the blaster first, I'm not totally sure I would have done that.

I am really impressed with this thing. I think have I completely broke down a CT 70 in the same amount of time I've spent on this nut, and it's still not off.
