Guys, I have a '64 CB77 motor, 102XXX which, according to Bill Silver's manuals/history, shouldn't have a primary chain tensioner. However, it does. Bill's historic data states, quote "The primary chain tensioner was not introduced until CB72E-211581, CB77E-210701.".
Anyone else out there in Honda-looney-la-la-land come across this?

Abso-bloody-lutely! I was ecstatic when I peered in through the filter cover and found one. Also a bit mystified that I don't have a filter bearing washer, though. I reckon it's in the casing from the last time I pulled the filter, having probably been put in the inside of the filter before my tenure. Luckily no filter/cover damage, though.

A primary chain? I thought was were none left, unless you found a good used motor. I noticed that mine seemed to have some funny looking wear on the sides of the chain. Almost like somebody had filed a rivet to separate the chain....but on a few different links.....I kinda held my breath and threw the cover back on. I wonder why that chain seems a lot wider than the sprockets?

Tensioner, 68-mate, tensioner! I don't think I'd be riding anywhere without the chain..... You shouldn't have a problem having one made at a decent m/c shop; count the links of your existing chain and take one of the primary drive sprockets along for pitch & guage.
Some clarification surrounding my opening post:
Engine nos! I've re-read the Honda numbering lesson; and the fact that the tensioner wasn't introduced until a CB72/CB77-21XXXX engine nr which, I now remember, was 1962. Being sometimes a bit bloody dumb, I wrongly thought that my motor, at 102XXX, preceded that issue.
