1966 CL77 in Florida

Post by Jamin » Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:11 pm

Hey guys, my name is Jamin. I picked up a huge pile of parts that i hope to ride at some point, haha. I've been reading non-stop about these bikes trying to absorb as much as possible. I'm sure you will see my posts everywhere in only a short while. Thanks for the help in advance!

here's the load:

Oh, and the best part. A 19mm socket, a hole saw, a paintbrush, and a bottle of english leather that i'll be undoubtedly wearing on the maiden voyage.

all together i got 3 frames and 3 titles...there's probably the parts for about 2.75 bikes total. I'm working on getting one going first. If that goes well maybe i'll work on a second, or just sell it, who knows.

I was working on getting bike #1 running. Spark, check. fuel, check. air, check. compression, FAIL. The one was at around 30psi, the other only slightly better. A little oil in the cylinders and they hit 120+. Stupid rings.

so now the motor is in pieces...

Things look odd though. The fasteners within the motor show obvious signs that its been apart before. The bike is a cl77, the case says cl77e, the wheel in the stator says cb72, the pistons say cb77 (and art), and i have a 180 degree crankshaft. what gives?

All of those parts are correct! All rotors say CB72, ART is the Honda piston manufacturer, and almost all CB/CL72 and 77s have 180 degree type 2 engines.

oh wow, haha. Ok, i guess everything you read on the internet isn't true (who would have thought, right?). I was under the impression the 77s were all 360 degree cranks.

couple more questions

1. where can i find solid core plug wires?
2. Where can i find piston rings? (assuming everything checks out)
