Trying to identify this bike

Post by Joshua » Sat Jun 13, 2009 2:36 pm

Hi all.

About three years ago, I inherited a bike from my father. I had let it sit as I wasn't ready to deal with it. However, I recently brought it down from my Grandmothers and decided to take it on as a project.

Here is the kicker. I have no paperwork for it. What I did have is who knows where. I am attempting to figure what year and model I have. The VIN plate on the crankcase is unreadable except the last four. I will try to get what information I can from the DMV, but IIRC they had the wrong year on the title. (Another thing I have to deal with since my father died before transferring the title into his name.)

So, any help would be greatly appreciated. Attached are a couple of photos, I can post more/better quality if need be.

Thanks.

Looks like a CA95, or a CA160. Look for VIN numbers on left side of frame, below where the battery mount is.

I can only read the last four. The plate seems to have worn down over time. Is there anything else I can do to identify it?

At first glance, it looked like the numbers were supposed to be raised, but then it occurred to me that they were indented. So, a little cleaner and a rag came up with A160E10136XX.

Edit: I pulled this off the crank case. I will try to locate the VIN where you suggested.

Yup. CA160 (Baby Dream, successor to the CA95) with, it appears, pretty close engine / frame number match.

How can I determine the exact year?
