chromechromeI have a 1962 CB77 chrome front fender and chrome side covers, they need to be redone there rusty and have some small dents. My question is can I sand blast the chrome pieces and then have the dents taken out and then painted or do I have to replace these pieces. I would like to restore to match the year of the bike. What do you guys think? Thanks Chris
I'm hooked on the resto project!!!!
Painting Over ChromeI had to replace the rear shocks on my 63 CB77, and found some all-chrome ones that otherwise looked much like the originals. I followed the instructions on the Dupli-Color web page for painting over the chrome (basically roughing with sand paper then using their self etching primer) tops to make them look like the OE shocks, and so far the paint looks good and is holding up fine. I sanded with either 320 or 400 grit paper, and in retrospect I might have used 240 or 320 paper because the finished surface "looks" too smooth to me, but it is working so I shouldn't complain.
