Progress

Post by Goodysnap » Tue Dec 02, 2008 6:38 am

Well it runs. And unfortunately that orange paint was far from original. I spilled some brake clean on the tank and it wiped right off. Clearly far from quality paint. Under the chrome was a burgundy color From what I can tell. I have alot of work ahead. Have a great Holiday Everyone.

Update

Post by Goodysnap » Mon Sep 28, 2009 7:11 pm

Made some progress , however slowly. I'm pretty certain this was originally a Black bike. However limited funds is going to keep me from restoring it to original condition.Which is Ok cause I plan on ridin it . Got alot of parts cleaned up and painted. Engine is apart and I honed the cylinders and fit the rings last weekend. Managed to get the trans X-ed thanks to the in depth posts and opinions. Got the fenders rechromed. Cheng Shins are all mounted up and ready to go back on. Having a blast. Thanks to all aboard who's info has saved me time and headaches. Brent

CB160

Post by Goodysnap » Mon Sep 28, 2009 7:22 pm

Well Havnt had much time to work on this one , but I did manage to get it running. Got the tank soaking using Deaddogs PH method which is working well especially how nasty the tank was. Luckily the petcock was shut off and spared the crap from getting to the carbs. Picked up new NGK plug caps(7112) from the parts store for $1 new which was a shock. Mufflers are pretty much shot. (not sure what I'm gonna do here yet). Having a blast , with plenty left to do. Brent

Upadate

Well I managed to fill the barn with smoke and noise yesterday. No leaks and the engine is nice and quite except for the noise comin out the pipes. I think I'll be savin the test drive for spring. Thanks Loud Mouse for sharing your recipe which was indeed helpful.

Together/first ride

Post by Goodysnap » Mon Mar 15, 2010 7:58 pm

Spent a good portion of the day Saturday recovering the seat , which turned out well. Got some finishing touches left. RH mirror, Footpeg, shifter and kicker rubbers. Came home tonight and it was too nice out not to at least take it for a short run. Its a tad noisier than I had hoped(exhaust), but it will do for now.The trans shifted extremely well, and no effort was required. This is the part that worried me the most. I initially had troubles gettin her fired up when cold. (This winter in Michigan)But that has progressively gotten better the more I run it. I'm quite happy w/ the results, and look forward to riding this coming season. Please excuse the less than par photography. Thanks guys for all your help.

Brent

Looking good! My son pulled the bikes out of the storage shed last week and polished them up them up. Here in Wisconsin we had a warm week. Sunday we fired them up. Today I re-activated the insurance and my Son has been riding around the SuperHawk most the afternoon :)
