eyhonda - 63 cb77 cafe project
eyhonda - 63 cb77 cafe projectHere is my newly acquired 63 cb77 superhawk. The title shows 64 but the vin serial starts with a three. So I believe it to be a 63. Anyway, here is a pic. It's a rough, non-runner with rattle-can paint and aftermarket pipes.
I will cafe it with clip-ons, cr style or cafe style seat, stock headers and Dunstall megaphones, alloy rims, cb160 front fender and air filter pods. A few questions: 1. where is the advancer on the ignition points? 2. anyone have a set of cb header pipes for sale?

Ok, almost ready to fire her up!
So far I've done the following since getting her last Monday: 1. new battery and HD connectors 2. clean the carbs and set the float level. new fuel line 3. set the timing.. finally. I was 180 off. 4. set the valve clearances. 5. checked compression. 6. rinsed the tank with phosphoric acid which also seals it. Milkstone remover at a tractor supply. 7. cleaned the petcock. 8. cleaned and lubed the brake plates 9. new tach, brake, and throttle cables. 10. new fork fluid. 11. rinsed the motor with kerosene/trans fluid. flushed with cheap oil. 12. checked spark. one coil is different but works. 13. pressure washed the motor and frame 14. new shocks, redwing assaults, 330mm, 1/2" longer. 15. new adjustable clip-ons, 32mm. 16. aluminum headlight brackets. 17. relocated pegs to #3 position. 18. new spherical rod-ends. waiting on cbr600rr shift rod. needed 6mm to 8mm sleeves. 19. straighten shift lever 20. cut handlebar clamps from top triple. still rough, needs to be grinded more & polished. 21. Dunstall mufflers. 22. waiting on headers. 23. waiting on cb160 front fender.

Curious to know why you've chosen clip-ons instead of the 'low' bars? As well, have you checked out the riding position you're going to have with these clip-ons? Are you also going to do something with your foot position? The reason I ask is that usually with clip-ons, you'd also have rearsets. Guess it all depends on what kind of riding you plan on doing (buzzing around town vs. long trips, for example).
The Dunstall pipes are really nice -- just keep an eye on that 'channel' piece that's on the backside of the muffler (where the hanger bar goes). I had three of them break on the face of that channel, so if there is a weak point about those Dunstalls, that would be it. Otherwise, they're very attractive, are 'period', and they're relatively inexpensive. Your headlight brackets are a nice touch too -- what are your plans for the fork tubes? Interested to see how your bike turns out - thanks for posting this.
This bike will be just an occassional rider. I like the look and feel of clipons. I'm used to modern cbr bikes so it's ok for me. I wanted to build a bike that looks like a CR bike. The pegs are on the last position. For the forks, I will use the factory lowers or try to fit dust seals. Otherwise just keep it bare and open. For the moment, I'm just trying to get it started with no luck! But that problem is being recorded in a different thread ("will not start").

questionsTwo and a half questions.
1. How does phosphoric acid work as a sealant? I need to clean rust from my 63 CB77 but fear dissolving through the sides of the tank. 2. Where did you get the Dunstalls and how much? Are they from JC Whitney?
