alternate tanks on cb77? cb400f?

Post by eyhonda » Mon Nov 23, 2009 4:24 pm

Anyone with both a cb77 and cb400f? Can you tell me if a cb400f tank will fit a cb77 frame? Any other alternate tanks for a cafe bike? How about those cool Wards/Benilli tanks?

The Benneli tank will work, but the petcocks need to be right angled to clear the head, and mounts must be fabricated. There's a post on this site of a member that builds , and sells some pretty awsome tanks.

I don't remember if he's a member here or not, but there's fellow in Ohio and goes by the username of ohiocaferacer, who has his own business and builds some fantastic gas tanks out of aluminum.

Here's the link to his site.

The reason I was asking about a 400f tank was because I may have a chance to buy back my own tank. The first vintage Honda I cut my teeth on was a 75 cb400f. It took me 5 years or so to build. It went thru a few different iterations. The last being a street legal CR with a long, alloy tank from England. I've had contact with third and final owners. The last one mentioning he may sell the tank. It would really cap off a CR version of my current cb77 project. Thanks for all the ideas, but still waiting to see if the 400f tank fits a cb77 frame. I think it's the same shape at least.

Glass from the Past has a fairly nice fiberglass tank for a CB77: http://caferacingparts.com/

Or, you can have an aluminum one made as shown in the photo for substantially more $$.
