New Poster with a Dream, Honda DreamNew Poster with a Dream, Honda DreamFirst post, new to the forum. I am into the slightly newer bikes, Honda V65's and the Kawasaki Eliminators, but anything old Honda catches my eye. I redid a 83 Nighthawk 550 for a friend. When I dropped it off at a halfway point at a mutual friends he told me he had an old bike he wanted me to look at, thought it was a CB350 or 360 that was his Dad's, who just passed away. Anyway as soon as I saw it I knew it was some kind of Dream, but I am really out of my league on this one. He wanted me to see if I could get it running but it is in really bad shape, some parts missing and lots of wires cut and hanging. From the research I have done since I got it home I think it is a CA77, he thought it was a 1967 but wasn't sure. I have found out where to find the serial numbers but I have not done that yet. Leaving for a snowmobile trip tomorrow for a couple of days. This thing is in really bad shape, it is more work than I am really looking for and to be honest it just isn't calling my name. I told him I would do some research and see what it is worth, if anything. Or, maybe part it out. My other computer with the camera connections is down right now so I can't post pictures.
The motor is seized up, I don't have either side cover but he thinks they are somewhere on site. No battery, everything is rusty. It was inside but I am not sure it always was. It is way more work than I want and I don't really want to learn a new system for electrics and carbs. Give me a 80's Honda and I can take it apart and put it back together. So, my question is: What is the first question I should be asking here? Seriously, I'm not quite sure where to start on it. I ran it through the car wash, didn't figure I could hurt it much. The tank is not dented, but rusty. The seat is in pretty good shape. Rear fender is busted off and gone and it looks like the front might have been cut down at some time. I have both pipes and mufflers, one is off the bike. I have the points cover, it is off the bike as well. I realize you can't tell much without pictures, use your imagination and then make it about 5X worse. Any market for bad shape parts on these things. I am not a big fan of parting out a bike, but I don't see much hope for getting it running again. From what I can tell it is pretty much like this one, only black and NOT NEARLY as nice. It has some real "ape hangers" for bars, not sure irf they are factory or not. Guy said his dad was a real cobbler, that fits. I will try and get the serial numbers posted up tomorrow, it looks like you can narrow the year down pretty well with that from what I have read. Bike is in Central Wisconsin. Maybe it is just a boat anchor. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1967-Hon ... ccessories Well I would have to say that these are a bit easier to work on that an 80's Honda in my opinion. The biggest problem is working through the rust and junk parts. I started with a rusty pule and turned it into a rider. Takes time, patience, and some $$$ and you have to decide if you want to go through that. If the end result looks like something you would be interested in than go for it. If not then let me know, I'm about 90 miles NW of you and come through that area every once in a while. Usually on the way to a swap meet or something. Ever get to the swap meet in Hatley in May?
Yes I have been to the swap meet in Hatley, and to the shop there a few times. I get to Spooner some with the truck making deliveries. I sent you a PM. Thanks for responding. I have looked at it a few more times, it just isn't my kind of bike and the owner is not going to want to pay me what it would cost to restore. I think we are talking thousands here probably. My gut feeling is it is a parts bike, and I'm not sure how much really is even good on it. It is not the bike I would want even if it was fully restored, more into the muscle bikes I guess. I mean if it was nicely done and running I wouldn't mind having it, but it is not on the radar of the bikes I want. Here is a pic of a V65 that I bought not running and in parts. The chrome and aluminum are rusted and corroeded from salt from San Diego. I am getting all those parts powdercoated a bit at a time. I deliver to powdercoating places for my job so I have a good source. Not sure I want to start on the Dream, a lot of work. ![]() Ah, the ultra rare Sabre sidecar! Good one! my buddy just bought and sold a Ural sidecar, all within about 8 months. I have 3 V65 Magnas, but no Sabres.
My camera computer is crashed, I will work on getting it back up and running. I realize a pic is about the only way to get any idea on this. I will look again for the frame serial number tomorrow. Just got home from a sno mo trip and about burned out from two days of cold weather. This is probably my favorite toy. Maybe not quite the fastest, but the most fun to ride and gets the most interest. ![]() OK, I have pictures. I have some closeups of other areas and I can take more if someone needs something specific. It is in VERY rough shape!!! To be honest, it probably looks BETTER in the pictures than it does in person.
I got a better look at the engine number and now I think it is CA77E-319104 only 6 digits on back end that I can see. I can see the frame number, but will need someone with better eyes than me to read. They are in bad shape as well. Maybe my son can get them for me when he gets home later. Anyway, here are a few pics to give you an idea of what it looks like. I am looking for an idea of any value it might have. I do realize it is in bad shape. Selling for someone else as a partially complete bike if possible. I do have the other exhaust pipe and the muffler. I DO NOT have either side cover, or a title. The owner thinks his mom has those somewhere, but I wouldn't count on getting them from what I saw of the place. Some parts were outside and they will be covered in snow soon until spring. Best I can say is if they show up I would forward them to any potential buyer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I do have more pics, also wondering about the front fender, it seems like I am missing the front fender, but this little bitty fender looks like it was factory. Maybe an inner fender of some sort? I would appreciate any ideas, I know it is in bad shape. I love old motorcycles and would hate to see it sold for scrap if it had any parts someone could use. ![]()
