You need something to hold the crankshaft at the F mark otherwise the engine continues to turn.

Have you checked your spark on both sides? Those old spark plug wires can also be a good source of problems. Are they cracked anywhere? Have you installed new caps? Have you trimmed about 1/4" of the wire off to ensure a good connection?

I've got good spark, not cuts in the wires and I had cut about 1/4" off the wires a while back. I didn't put new caps on though.

check cyl.psi.

A soft cyl.will show unburnt fuel on the plug and act like carb issues often slower to warm than the good cyl.
