kick start mechanism

Post by skinkdesign » Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:21 pm

I am having a problem with my '67 CB77- the ratcheting mechanism for the kickstarter will engage causing the engine to stall and not run. I have opened the tranny up and even tried shimming the shaft in hopes of keeping the ratcheting mechanism from skipping around the retaining bolt. No dice , same result. Has anyone encountered this problem before? My next thought is to lengthen the retaining bolt - any thoughts?

Is the kicker return spring in the right sidecover wound correctly? You may have an issue with the kicker gear, or a worn stopper bolt. Post pics of the parts if you can.
