Clutch interchangabiltyClutch interchangabiltyHi!
Are old and new versions of clutches , as complete units , interchangable ? Thanks , Karl
clutchKarl,
You didn't specify which model so I looked back through your posts and found some of your questions re:CB77. So I am assuming you are asking about such. Since I am a cl rider and don't have a lot of CB experience, I'll give you what I think I know since the two are the same for the most part. If I'm wrong an expert will slap me up side the head and straighten me out. That said, the only issue I know of between early and late is the deep spline issue. Somewhere around 67 they went to a deep spline. A shallow(early) spline gear/sprocket/clutch will fit on a deep spline shaft but a deep gizmo will not fit a shallow shaft. I changed some tranny parts once and when I tried to install the clutch and drive sprocket, no fit. So I had to go a different way. There may be other issues as well but not in my limited knowledge. Hope this helps some,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,RW
Re: clutchSlap! Slap!! :-)
The deep spline on the crank, clutch and drive sprocket was up to bike 1052546. The shallow after that. To some the clutches will look the same as they all did the same job. HONDA had so many design changes through the years it's hard to describe. The Center of the clutch had at least 7 design changes. The outer at least 3 and the pressure plate at least 2. The Thin Steel plates have at least 3 designs. The first plate at least 3. The friction disc had at least 4 (268) designs during production then others from other bikes were superseded as parts to use. As for springs HONDA used at least 4 designs with to me the ones with WHITE paint on one end work the best. The last HONDA clutch is referred to as the CUSH DRIVE as it worked the best of any and worked so good ya didn't need to get the BARNETT plates to have a clutch which worked nice and smooth and didn't require constant parts replacement. After CB77E-1012460????? What was the question again????????????????. :-). ...........lm
clutchesWell,,,,,,,,I stand corrected. RW
clutchI can't speek for Sprocket but for me I have several engines/transmissions I have collected and the question still remains: can ya interchange old and new clutches as whole assemblies? I knew that there were many changes over the years. But as an assembly????????????????????????????????RW
Re: clutchOf course ya can.
Just that certain parts assembled together work the best. ...............lm
