Kick start pedal movenent

Post by ggray » Mon May 17, 2010 9:33 am

Hi guys and gals. Been a long time since I've posted anything here as I have been busy riding my '65 CL.

Hope all are well and riding also.

I have noticed a condition that has cropped up in the past few months that I need to inquire about.

When taking off from a standing start the kick start pedal on my CL wants to rotate CCW as the clutch is released. This will occur in first as well in 2nd gear, although not as severe as in first.

When installing the RH side cover, I preload the kick start return spring with aequate tension approx. two full turns of tension) to return the pedal to it's proper position.

Obviously, something is overriding this preload tension when taking off.

Can someone lead me to a cause of this condition?

I'm suspecting clutch but need confirmation before tearing into it.
Thanks in advance,

Gary

I do hope this isn't the problem as ya will need to do a lot to fix it.
I think the 12 1/4" rollers on the Kick Shaft have warn into the shaft and the shaft needs to be replaced. ...............lm

Ed, Let me refer to my manual for the PN of the shaft and I'll get back to you. Sounds like an engine pull to me though.

Thanks,

Ya do need to remove the engine then take the bottom off (plus both side covers and clutch)
but not the top.
Is a good time to check all the gears as they will have warn at some places for sure. ................lm
