In my seemingly never ending search for a true white 67/68 Superhawk to replace the one I had back in 71', I have come across a fairly complete 1 owner bike that has been stored since around 1980 in a barn deep in the south. The owner states that he bought the bike new in 68 and titled it as a 68. Titles long gone. He states that the frame serial # is CB77-1026xxx with a close engine #. I got a couple of ruff pictures from the owner and it could be an aluminum slider fork and definately a lip seat. The white SH I had back in the 70's was very late production being S/N 1045261 and had the lip seat. I've owned about 30 Superhawks over the years and do realize that they were usually titled the year of sale and could really be any year of production. My question is when did the lip seat come into production? I've got 3 black ones with lip seats in the attic right now and they are all late production. I think that there could be a mistake in his reading of the frame #'s and I really don't think, from talking with the owner on the phone, that further inspection from him is an option as he seems to be rather non technical. The bikes about 400 miles away. I don't mind driving that far to get the bike I'm after but I'd like a little better clue as to whether there's a possibility this one could be late production due to the "original " lip seat. He's got the bike priced a bit high but I think he's negotiable and I want to have the deal cut before the trip.

I bought a new white CB77 in 1968 (I think) that the dealer had repainted the fenders, tank and sidecovers blue.

He had a showroom full of white ones he said Honda shipped him as "White Christmas Specials".
I had been shopping them and Harley Sprints and saving my money. The Hawks were priced at 995.00 and the Sprints were 749.00, and he said the sticker price was as low as he could go.

On my way to pick up the Sprint I stopped by the Honda dealer for one last try.

When I told him I was going to get the Harley because I didn't have enough for the Honda he said "how much do you have?"

When I pulled out the 700.00 from my pocket, he said "I'll take it, pick out the one you want"

Best recollection is the forks were white, but don't remember the seat.

So I have a 62 CB72 that I would like to do in white. I know there were all white CB77's. how about all white CB72's? if so, then what body parts were NOT white?

Nice anecdote, Brew. One of the things I really love about Our Forum, shared knowledge aside, is the historic stories such as yours.

After bolting the shiny new Antique License plate from the DMV on my Dream, it hit me......I'm a hell of a lot older than this bike!

Was feeling a little sorry for myself the other day till I saw an old man at the store with a ball cap on with the inscription "1926 Model"

I have a question flathead... in your original post you speak of pig cutting... could you explain this I'm curious if it is the same as what we here in louisiana refer to ?????
PS I have a set of nos white cb77 sidecovers for trade
