Air screw all the way in

Post by versuspop » Fri Aug 13, 2010 9:48 am

If I can turn the air screw all the way in and the bike still runs, do I richen the idle jet, or look for air leaks?

I would start with air leaks, then clogged carb passages/jet.
If you turn the air screw all the way in while idling, the engine should die.

You have which engine?
When I find this syndrome I remove the screw and blow high pressure into the hole after I've removed and cleaned the slow jet.
Doesn't work every time and when it doesn't I pull the offending carb and do a complete rebuild. ............lm

also, can't seem to find an air leak. I have spritzed the carb with carb cleaner and I can not get it to increase revs.

when i spritz carb cleaner into the air intake of the carb, the idle drops. I disassembled the carb and cleaned the idle jet (and everything else) and reassembled. same issue. as i turn the air screw in, the the idle increases and the engine will not die with it all the way in. could the jet be too rich?

Does the CB450 have 2 carbs? Have you taken the carbs all the way off and cleaned all the passages? Do you have some issues with they way it runs where you would suspect the jets are wrong?

We have a 73 CB500 but I think this is a different critter, it has 4 carbs in a rack and a real bugger to take apart and put together :)
