Need a Clutch cable but ???????

Post by FluteTears » Fri Aug 27, 2010 5:33 pm

Hi all,
Been a long time for me to post as I have been busy with my 1964 Honda Dream...
Now I have been riding this bike two years now with out any major problems after
getting it back on the road but......
I need a new clutch cable and I think that the one that is on the bike may be
wrong. it has never been very good.
In trying to find the correct cable I have found that 1964 seems to list 3 and I
think I have all 3 but not sure which is the correct one.
My Engine # is 77E31697 and the frame is CA78313767
The frame # seems to be the problem it seems wrong somehow.
Can anyone tell me if this is a pre 1964 or a late 1964. Also if you have a
part # for the clutch cable would be good to as I have 3 at this time.
I looked at a 1963 205 today and the cable that is in it comes out in front of
the coil mine is longer and comes out behind the coil and that seems like a very
sharp bend in the cable to me.
I can post photos if that would help.

Oh some history as to what has been done to the clutch EMO built the clutch all
of the rod and adjusters have been replaced just was in it last night put new
grease on things. Its a heavy clutch and I think the cable has rust in it making
it not as easy to use. I am sure that I need a new cable.

Thanks
Brad

What are the lengths of the ones you have now?
Does your cable exit the housing toward the rear or from the middle?
If it exits from the middle, the length should be approx 37" or so, if from the rear, 50"+ or -.

Well sorry but the question is show it exit from back of the coil or in front of the coil.
at this time the cable that is not working well and somewhat new exits from the back of the coil and is long.
is it the year of the bike that makes it exit from the back of the coil or the shorter one the exits in front of the coil that make it right? Also I am looking to see if it is pre 1964 or ????
Thanks for the input

It appears you have a 63 model from the frame serial #. Did you miss a # in the engine serial?

The part #'s for the cable are confusing, as my parts book lists only 2, breaking in the 65 year range.
Some fiche show 3, with one superceding to another.

At any rate, the late model exits the engine case in the middle and loops under the gas tank.

The earlier versions exit the engine case in the rear, and loop in the frame side cover...not sure where in relation to the coil......maybe someone with an early model can chime in.

Here is a picture of mine when I first got it. Can't promise the routing is correct but I never touched it...;) Image

Hi,

The routing ain't correct, the aluminum part where the cable fits in is turned 180 degree's.
Funny picture for sure,
